2) Make Sure Your Ranger Does as much work as possible!!! We want to make sure that we are "teaching" our contestants how to build and race their cars. Please, even if it means not winning, let your Ranger do as much of the work as possible. Our goal is not to "Win". We want all contestants to experience GOD in a life changing way.

3) MATTHEW 7:12 (Do unto other as what you would have them do unto you): This is our Golden Rule in for Rangers, for life in general, and for the Derby Car Race.
1) A contestant may enter only 1 car per racing class. The owner of the car must be present to race.
2) In order to be eligible for competition (either racing or workmanship), a car must fit on and roll down the track without interfering with any other car. Ranger Derby cars must be purchased from KALCC. Contestants must use the parts provided in the kit for their intended use. A new car must be made each year from a Royal Ranger pinewood derby car kit (cars from previous years cannot be used). This kit comes with a wood block for a body, wheels, axles and axle housings. There can be no substitutions for any of these elements. Additional items that participants may use include glue, a dry lubricant, polish, paint, weights and fixed decorative ornaments. Each ranger can make and enter no more than two cars per year.
3) Cars (except those entered in the unlimited class) must meet the following specifications. Note: Check the kit block before you start to make sure that it does not exceed any of the requirements.
5) Once a car has been turned in on registration day, February 19th, NO further work may be done to it. Car will be considered complete and ready to race.
6) 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes are awarded in each class. A race featuring the first place winners from the Ranger Kids, Discovery Rangers, Adventure & Expedition Rangers classes determines the grand champion.

- Wheels and Axles: Rules prohibit the use of liquid lubricants on the wheels and axles (This is to prevent slick spots from forming on the track). Powdered graphite and/or a graphite/molybdenum mix are allowed. All wheels are to be clearly seen from the top of the car and should not use any kind of friction-reducing device, such as bearings, washers, bushings or springs.
- Making the Car: The block of wood that forms the body of the car can be cut, sanded and formed into what ever shape the ranger desires. Overall rules regarding car measurements are to be followed. Decorative trims such as decals, spoilers, miniature driver and painted details are permissible so long as they fit within the measurement requirements and are firmly affixed to the car. Any cars presented with wet paint will be disqualified. Weights can be used to bring the car up to the allowed 5 ounces. These weights can be located inside the car body or taped on the outside. Pinewood derby cars are a joint adult/child project. The child must do at least 50% of the work.
- Forbidden Add-ons: Cars must run on gravity alone. Additional power sources such as compressed air cartridges, magnets, jets or engines are prohibited.
Each contestant may enter one car in this event per class they enter. It does not have to be the same car entered in the race, but it must meet the same qualifications (fits on and is able to roll down the track) as cars entered in the race classes. The judges will not converse while judging. Any comments will be in writing and consist of the car number and score using the "Workmanship Judging Scoring Sheet." Cars will be judged based on the below.
- Originality (0-20): Was the design the idea of the artist himself? How much creative thought went into the design?
- Craftsmanship (0-20): (The skill the workman showed in cutting, carving, sanding and detailing the car.) Did the owner make the car's extra ornaments or were they something bought and attached?
- Color and Appearance (0-20): What is the outward appearance? Is the painting of the car appealing? Are the color and paint even all over the car? Is the appearance pleasing to the eye?
